The Vista Counseling Services (VCS) Program will accept male or female students, 17-21 years old, who have successfully been through a treatment setting environment (i.e. residential treatment facility, wilderness program, or intensive therapeutic out patient services). Any student who will not be 18 years old before starting the VCS Program must have completed high school either by receiving a high school diploma or completing a GED. Students must also demonstrate a strong desire toward continuing their education in a university or junior college setting. Our students must be enrolled in one of several excellent college and university settings offered in Salt Lake City. Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) has served the community for more than 50 years, providing classes for traditional and non-traditional students. SLCC offers "quality technical and academic education as well as business and industry training." Westminster is a smaller private university with a more intimate classroom setting. The advantages of a smaller classroom size may benefit many of our students. The University of Utah (U of U) is one of the premier research universities in the West. It's a more traditional university setting with a large campus environment where many extra curricular activities are available.

We believe that our students have the ability to succeed in these higher education settings. The best academic setting will be determined with input from the student, parents, consultants, teachers and program administration. Out students have many excellent attributes such as: creativity; the ability to express themselves; high intelligence; a sense of humor and the ability to be loving, caring individuals to name a few. They also need guidance and direction which will assist in channeling these attributes to their best use.
